About Alan David Kershaw

Leading Hypnotherapist in Wakefield and Yorkshire

Alan David Kershaw has studied psychotherapy for over thirty years and has been in full time private practice for over twenty years. He has a very healthy private clientele, and his results have earned him an enviable reputation amongst his peers.

During his early years having produced excellent results with his private clients, enabled Alan to obtain preferred supplier status for the NHS, allowing GPs to refer and fund their patients’ therapy. Within the first year Alan was working with seven GP practices across Wakefield and Kirklees.

His results speak for themselves, with written endorsements not only from clients but also from the GPs he’s worked alongside.

Although originally trained in analytical therapy and hypnotherapy, Alan has still spent time studying various other forms of therapy. He believes there are many therapies that produce exceptional results when combined with others and has proved their success by incorporating these into his own practice.

For those individuals that find life suddenly becomes frighteningly out of control, fears appear unfounded, illnesses appear to have no findings, or everything you once held precious appear to have no value; the treatment Alan offers and believes in, is to treat the root cause rather than the symptoms. In other words, Alan’s unique combination of therapies create a ‘once and done’ solution.

Today, Alan’s unique and pioneering style of therapy is called Combined Approach Therapy (CAT Methodology) and is based on selecting therapies, which works cohesively to produce personal solutions for each client, ensuring each individual receives a bespoke therapy tailored exactly to their needs. Alan’s success is determined by the fact that he treats the root cause and the symptoms, no temporary fixes, just permanent solutions. This requires the understanding and ability to work with the subconscious mind.

The CAT Methodology  - Imagine the mind as a house…..the basement of the house stores all the clutter and baggage that you no longer want to see and are frequently forgotten about. These items may have a negative effect on your life if they are on regular display and, therefore, the subconscious mind sends the cause of anxiety (related to a particular event) to the basement in order to protect you from the possible negative effect.

However at some point in your life, an event may occur (bereavement, divorce or stress at work or at home) that creates a ‘trigger’, which in someway is usually connected to what is stored away in the basement. The anxiety is regarded as having been ‘repressed’ as it has been lost from consciousness but suddenly comes back to the fore.

Think of a child. A child’s mind does not come of age until pre-puberty and, therefore, a child believes what an adult says, generally without question. This is the time when a child’s mind is not fully equipped to judge what is right and what is wrong. Many people go through life without any symptoms or events that might act as a trigger. However it is very easy to pass through life with the belief you were to blame for something that happened in childhood.

To conclude, the subconscious is the guardian of the individual up to late adolescence and can be extremely beneficial, as long as there are no triggers appertaining to the event.
